The Great Train Robbery at the Delaware & Ulster Railride
Light-Hearted Train Robberies.
It’s entertainment of a different sort when the D&U is hit by “train robbers.” Dressed in period garb, these historically accurate desperadoes recreate the flavor of the old west as they “hold up” the train and its passengers. The good news for passengers is that lawmen can be counted on to keep order when they arrive in the nick of time.
The robberies are presented by the talented Shadows of the Old West troupe.
These train robbery reenactments offer thrills and enjoyment for children and adults.
Show Times: 11:00am & 2:00pm.

Maverick Concerts, America's oldest continuous summer chamber music festival and winner of the Chamber Music America/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming, thrives on the love of great music and the spirit of its unique site in the unspoiled woods. The rustic 1916 concert hall, with its perfect acoustics, is ideally suited to chamber music and the intimacy of live performance.
A series of four Young People's Concerts starts midsummer. Visit our Schedule Page for all the season details.
Maverick Concerts continues the vision of Hervey White, founder of the collaborative Maverick Art Colony. Artists and other volunteers built the hand hewn music chapel in 1916. The hall is now a multi-starred attraction on the National Register of Historic Places. View our website for more history of this interesting venue and its top-notch performances.

Andes Margaretville Roxbury Open Studios 2014
Free Studio Tours
Hours: 11:00am to 5:00pm
For the third season area artists from Andes, Margaretville, Arkville, Halcottsville, Denver, Roxbury, and Fleischmanns are opening their studio doors for the Andes - Margaretville - Roxbury Open Studios Tour.
While the work of these artists is often exhibited in the area, the AMR Open Studios 2014 tour is the rare opportunity to see where their art is actually made.
Studio visitors will be able to talk to the artists, view their tools and equipment, breathe their mountain air and feel the vibrations of a working studio. The studio spaces themselves vary widely from large to small, new to old and historic. Many of the artists have repurposed old barns, village or farm houses to accommodate their creative impulses. Others have studios of entirely new construction, some designed and built by the artist, others have been designed by an architect.
The artists’ work spaces are all easily accessible from highways 28 and 30.
This year’s tour will include potters, a weaver, a furniture maker, a contemporary quilt maker, painters, printers, photographers, a sculptor, an artists’ residency and a deerskin clothing designer; all maintain separate, dedicated studios where their art is created.
If you took the tour in 2012 or 2013 this is your opportunity to catch up on new work, visit the studios you may have missed, and meet new artists.
The artists on this year’s tour are Rusty Dorr and Joanna Murphy of Andes; Lizbeth Firmin, Gary Mead, and Nat Thomas of Margaretville; Margaret Leveson, Amy Masters, Sumiko Patrone and Ted Sheridan of Arkville; Rosamond Welchman of Halcottsville; Ann Lee Fuller and Tabitha Gilmore-Barnes in Denver. In the Roxbury area visitors will find Frank Manzo, Helene K. Manzo, John Sanders, Gerda van Leeuwen, Ellen Wong and Peter Yamaoka along with the artists from the Andes Sprouts Residency who will have installations in the barn of Straight out of the Ground Farm. Anthony Margiotta is in Halcott.
All are well known locally and many, both nationally and internationally. All of their studios reflect their personalities and their work requirements. A photo selection of some of the studios may be viewed at https://www.facebook.com/AmrOpenStudios2013.
The 2014 Open Studios Tour features the newest piece of public area in our tour area. "The Double Horseshoe Curve", by tour artist, Joanna Murphy, depicts a stretch of train track in Pine Hill that negotiates a challenging slope on the eastern face of Belleayre Mountain. The story of the two sweeping curves, looping back and forth across the mountainside was inspired by a story from local historian Diane Galusha. This project was made possible in part, with funds from the Decentralization Program, a re-grant program of the New York State Council on the Arts, administered in Delaware County by the Roxbury Arts Group and with generous donations from individual and business community members.
" The Double Horeshoe Curve" mural will be augmented by The Arkville and Margaretville Community Mural (to be completed end of June 2014). This project is made possible in part by the support of the A. Lindsay and Olive B. O’Connor Foundation, and by the generous donations from individual and business community members.
The murals are located in Arkville on the large green building which houses the Laundromat, Donatello’s Pizza and Jack’s Caboose on Hwy 28 and are visible to viewers approaching Arkville from the East on Hwy 28. Murphy, will be present to answer questions of inspiration and execution in her Andes Studio the two days of the tour. Printed information about the murals will be available at the Hwy 28 site.
Tour visitors can plan their route by consulting the tour website www.AMRopenstudios.org or picking up a colorful brochure with a map, images, and addresses at many locations, including Margaretville Liquor Store, Main St. and Longyear Gallery, The Commons Building, Margaretville, The Orphic Gallery, Main St., Roxbury, the Two Old Tarts, Andes and Zoom Gallery and Skene Memorial Library, Fleischmanns.
This event is made possible, in part, with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by The Roxbury Arts Goup, with additional funding from the A. Lindsay and Olive B. O’Connor Foundation and support from The MARK Project.
