  • Schlachtfest at Crystal Brook Mountain Brauhaus Resort

    Greene County

Schlachtfest is a one of a kind experience that is sure to be fun for the whole family and one for the scrapbook. Celebrated 4 times annunally throughout the fall, festivities include live German/American music by a renowned German band, authentic German/American cuisine, abundant German beer on tap, topped with a traditional Schlachtfest celebration parade lead by our very own Master of Ceremonies.

A Schlachtfest is a traditional German celebration going back thousands of years, celebrating the pig, as pork is traditionally a staple in the German diet. Each fall townspeople would harvest their pigs and process them into various roasts, sausages, soups and other delicacies making sure to utilize the entire pig without waste. Schlachtfest is a way for the German people to praise and celebrate the pig and all that it has done and provided for them throughout the year.

Today we celebrate Schlachtfest to enjoy great food and drink as well as continuing a great cultural tradition. The evening starts with a traditional Schlachtfest dinner including Metzel soup, Sultze (headcheese), cucumber salad, fresh ham, bratwurst, blutwurst, liverwurst, hox, boiled potatoes, dumplings, sauerkraut, and finished off with our famous Napoleon for dessert. After the traditional meal is over the festivities continue including dance and parade. Following the parade, the pig is then raffled off for you to take home a piece of port for you to enjoy with your family. This is sure to be a night you will never forget! Starts at 6pm.

  • Bauernball at Crystal Brook Mountain Brauhaus Resort

    Greene County

Another one of our never ending festivities. A dance celebrated throughout the fall consisting of live music by a famed German American band. Ample German specialties including schnitzel, bratwurst, sauerbraten among countless others along with flowing German beer and wines.

At the start of the night patrons will notice the dance floor adorned with various colored ribbons hanging candies tempting those as they pass. The idea of the game is to successfully take a candy without the "sheriff" catching you in the act.

Back in the medieval times of Germany, Bauernball originated as a peasant's ball, a rustic dance, typical of the Tyrol region in Austria. It was a German social event, where attendees would come dressed in costumes representing the various different German speaking countries. Each year a game was played while dancing to help allow all those involved to forget about the realities of everyday life and enjoy the night for what is was. Come join us for a modern twist on an age old good time!
