Season Opening Concert of Friends of Music Presents: Trio +
It's Official: We Have a New Venue!
After 27 years at the Cyr Center, the former Rexmere Hotel (tragically lost in a recent fire), Friends of Music had to move.
Our concerts will now be hosted by the Robinson Terrace Skilled Nursing Facility, or “Nursing Home” as most folks in the area call it.
It is the modern brick building we saw up on the hill across the lake when we were listening to music at the Cyr Center; basically it’s right across the highway from our previous location.
Friends of Music presents nine performances each season. Concerts start at 3PM, usually on the 3rd Sunday of each month from April through November; the Holiday Concert is on the 1st Sunday of December. See our Calendar for currently scheduled concerts.
Please note: This concert takes place on Saturday April 19th; it will not be on a Sunday as our concerts usually are. The third Sunday in April this year is Easter Sunday, and Trio+ was not available either the previous or the following weeks so we decided to have the concert on Saturday instead.
If you're in the area please join us for this first concert of our 28th Season, and help us inaugurate our new venue at Robinson Terrace!
The members of Trio +, pronounced “Trio Plus,” expand the idea of what a traditional piano trio could be through creative programming and by infusing their performances with unique atmospheres. Friends of Music knows of the group through our longtime friend and mentor cellist Wolfram Koessel.
For the last ten years they have performed together in various combinations across five continents. Their first critically acclaimed performance as a piano trio was given at the Sydney Festival 2003 (Australia) in collaboration with the Mark Morris Dance Group. Their Japan debut took place at Symphony Hall and Suntory Hall with Century Orchestra Osaka performing the Beethoven Triple Concerto in 2008.
Trio+ is deeply committed to the further advancement of music education. Their productions at Art Tower Mito in 2005 and 2008 featured paintings and words in addition to the music. Their use of multimedia to stretch the boundaries of the student’s imagination to include alternative forms of art has received rave reviews.
Violinist Yosuke Kawasaki is the Concertmaster of the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Canada, Principle Guest Concertmaster of the Century Orchestra Osaka, as well as a member of Mito Chamber Orchestra and Saito Kinen Orchestra. Pianist Vadim Serebryany is currently a faculty member at Huntingdon College. Cellist Wolfram Koessel is the cellist of the American String Quartet, a faculty member at the Manhattan School of Music and the former Music Director for the Mark Morris Dance Group.
Suggested admission donations are requested at the door:
$12 for adults
$6 for Senior Citizens and Students
Children under 13 are admitted free of charge.
Cash or check only please; we are not equipped to accept credit cards. There are no advance ticket sales or reservations. Season Passes are available.
Post-concert refreshments are catered by Jeannette and Janis Balins of A Taste of Europe Restaurant in Cobleskill.
Some people choose to leave as soon as the music is over, but some folks in the audience tell us “I came here for the food!” — it’s that good. The refreshments are included with your admission donation.
After the music concert goers may also be found eating dinner at Gabrielle's Restaurant at 60 Main St. in Stamford. It's a pleasant way to end a lovely day in the beautiful village of Stamford, NY.
Do join us for fabulous music in 2014, our 28th Season!

One Bug Fly Fishing Contest
Friends of the Upper Delaware River are happy to announce the annual One Bug fundraiser.
To help improve & protect the Wild Trout Fishery of the Upper Delaware River, the three-day event is being held to celebrate the camaraderie of fly-fishing and draw attention to the challenges our rivers, streams, and all the people that live and work in our watershed.
All the fishing guides are donating there time for the two days of fishing to support the work of FUDR. Contestants are only allowed to use ONE BUG the entire day of fishing and if they loose it they may continue to fish but no additional points may be scored. The guides will serve as judge and jury once they have their fishermen in the boat and will be the official scorekeepers through out the day. The size of the fish determines how points are scored and points are taken away if a fish is killed. Limited to 14 teams.
Friday Night Kick-Off Party – $100/ticket – food & drink included! To buy a ticket, go here: ONE BUG 2014.
