Snowshoeing & Nordic Skiing
Snowshoeing and Nordic skiing are great ways to enjoy the peaceful beauty of the Catskills in winter. Breathe in the crisp, clean mountain air as you glide along pristine snow-covered trails. Enjoy professionally manicured trails at a Nordic ski and snowshoe center or satisfy your need for adventure in the Catskills backcountry. It's the perfect way to embrace winter and have some fun during the cold season!
With hundreds of acres of Forever Wild forest preserve, the Catskills has miles of public trails to explore. In the Great Northern Catskills alone, there are 705,500 acres of wilderness! In summer months, much of this land is accessible to hikers. In the winter, strap on your snowshoes and hit the very same trails. Cross-country skiers and snowshoers can both enjoy the 26-mile Catskills Scenic Trail. Running from Bloomville to Grand Gorge, the mostly flat trail provides a mellow experience for beginners or those just looking to enjoy being outdoors. Swish and glide as you enjoy breathtaking views of the Catskills rolling farmland.
If you're looking to learn the ropes, or want to refine your form on groomed trails, visit a Catskills ski and snowshoe center. The varied selection of trails at the Mountain Trails Cross Country Ski Center in Tannersville is perfect for families and adults alike. More seasoned skiers will enjoy the trails at Frost Valley YMCA in Claryville. Offering over 25 km of groomed trails and 10 km of track-set trails, it's the perfect opportunity to hone your skill. In addition to downhill skiing and snowboarding, Windham also offers opportunities for Nordic skiers and snowshoers. Their Nordic Center even offers lessons in orienteering and biathlon.
Experience how beautiful and fun the Catskills can be in winter. Make Nordic skiing or snowshoeing a part of your next visit!
